How Therapy with me works

Support for Children and Adolescents

I offer therapeutic support for children and young people who may be feeling overwhelmed, worried, low, or unsure how to make sense of what they’re experiencing. Some come with a clear difficulty; others simply have a sense that something doesn’t feel quite right. All are welcome.

Therapy provides a gentle, steady space where young people can explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace, with someone who is warm, calm, and attuned to their needs.

What Therapy Can Help With

Young people come to therapy for many different reasons. Some of the areas I commonly support include:

·       - Anxiety or worry — feeling overwhelmed, tense, or unable to switch off

·       - Low mood or sadness — feeling flat, tearful, or disconnected

·       - School-related stress — academic pressure, transitions, or difficulties with attendance

·       - Friendship or peer challenges — conflict, isolation, or social worries

·       - Family changes — separation, loss, or shifts in family dynamics

·       - Self-esteem and confidence — feeling unsure, not good enough, or overly self-critical

·       - Emotional regulation — big feelings that feel hard to manage or understand

·       - Identity and self-understanding — exploring who they are and how they feel

Some young people may not have the words for what they’re feeling. Therapy can help them find clarity, expression, and a sense of steadiness.

How Sessions Work

Sessions take place weekly at the same time each week, offering a predictable and containing rhythm. Each session lasts 50 minutes.

My approach is gentle and responsive. Depending on the young person’s needs, sessions may include:

·       - Talking therapy

·       - Creative arts (drawing, painting, sand tray, imagery, symbolic play)

·       - Reflective exploration of thoughts, feelings, and experiences

·       - Quiet space to pause, breathe, and settle

There is no expectation to talk before a young person feels ready. The space belongs to them, and we move at a pace that feels safe.

Working With Parents

For children and younger adolescents, I begin with an initial meeting with parents to understand what has brought them to seek support. For older adolescents, this may be adapted depending on their wishes and level of independence.

While the therapy space itself is confidential, I maintain communication with parents via regular reviews around general themes, wellbeing, and progress—always in agreement with the young person.

Initial Consultation

Before beginning ongoing sessions, I offer an initial consultation at no charge. This is a 15 minute phone call and a chance for:

·       - You to share what has led you to seek support

·       - Me to understand your child or young person’s needs

·       - Us to decide together whether I am the right fit

There is no obligation to continue after this meeting. It’s simply a gentle starting point. Use the contact form below to get in touch to arrangement an initial consultation.
